We have built and deployed two tourist information smart display kiosks in Taalintehdas; one in the guest harbor and the other in the market square tourist information points. They will run until September.
It is composed of an Android tablet and a TV that are connected wirelessly. It was challenging to make sure the TV stays responsive with varying network conditions but it was not impossible to overcome.
The TV functions as a digital display and displays upcoming events and photos when not being used in conjunction with the tablet. Tablet has an interactive tourist map with videos about points of interest. When a user selects a video it starts playing on the TV. The tablet also have options to browse local tourist information sites.
We plan to add bus timetables and more in the future. Stay tuned.
